Method
Sourcing
Original period publications are acquired and assessed for condition, print integrity, visual character, and historical relevance.
Selection
Individual printed works are chosen for their composition, subject matter, age, and ability to stand as singular historical artifacts. Each work is also considered within a broader collection framework, where visual relationships, historical themes, and shared subject matter help create a coherent body of work.
Extraction and Preservation
Prints are carefully removed from their original publication context using non-destructive methods. No facsimiles, reprints, or digital reproductions are used.
Mounting
Each work is mounted using archival, acid-free materials selected to support the original printed artifact without permanently altering it. Where appropriate, works are T-hinged and float-mounted, allowing the original edges of the artifact to remain visible while preserving a sense of depth, shadow, and material presence.
Framing
Works are framed with conservation-minded materials, including acid-free backing, archival hinging methods, protective spacing, and glazing selected for the needs of the individual piece. The framing approach is designed to protect the artifact while allowing it to remain visually present and historically legible.
Documentation
Each work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and chain-of-custody documentation identifying the source publication, publication date, artifact reference number, and relevant collection details.
Legal and Rights Notes
All works are original historical printed materials sourced from period publications. These materials are considered to be in the public domain or used in accordance with applicable rights limitations. John Anthony Studios does not claim copyright ownership of the original published images. Rights are asserted solely in the physical framed artifact, its curatorial presentation, and the accompanying documentation.
Final Presentation
The result is a singular framed artifact: original, documented, and prepared for long-term display.
